What this site can answer

  • Something here is wrong, unclear, or out of date.
  • A timing or a measurement doesn’t match what your zone is doing.
  • Questions about the site itself: who writes it, how it’s funded, how the drawings are made. Most of that is already on About.

What this site won’t answer

Three kinds of questions get a redirect instead of an answer. Not to be difficult. Being wrong on any of them is expensive.

Plant ID, and whether something is safe to eat

No identification from photos, and no rulings on edibility. That covers wild plants, berries, and mushrooms. A confident answer from a stranger online is the exact thing that hurts people here, so you won’t get one from this address.

A pet or a person who ate a plant

Call your vet first. For a person, call Poison Control, or 911 if they have collapsed, are seizing, cannot be woken, or cannot breathe. Email is the slowest tool you own in that moment, and nothing here can diagnose anything.

  • ASPCA Animal Poison Control: 888-426-4435 (a consultation fee may apply)
  • Poison Control: 1-800-222-1222 (free)

Both numbers are US-only.

Pesticide or herbicide rates

No doses, no dilutions, no mixing rates, by email or anywhere else. The label is the legal instruction: federal law makes it a violation to use a registered pesticide in a way its labeling does not allow. Read the label, then ask your state Cooperative Extension service if it still isn’t clear.
