This page explains how Ava’s Garden Tips pays for itself, and what you’re owed in return: a clear label, close to the thing being labelled.
How this site is funded
Two ways. Display advertising on the page, and affiliate links where they’re used. That’s the whole list. No paid guest posts, no payment for a favorable mention, no fee to be included in a roundup. If that ever changes, this page changes first, and the post itself says so.
Display advertising
When ads appear on this site, they’re served by third-party ad networks. Google AdSense is the network this site uses or has applied to use; if another network is added, this page names it. The site doesn’t choose which advertiser shows up in a given slot; the network does that automatically, and the same page can show different ads to different readers.
Ads are labeled as advertising and kept visually separate from the article, so you can tell at a glance which is which. Advertisers get no input into what gets covered, what gets recommended, what order a list runs in, or what gets removed. No advertiser sees a post before it publishes, because nobody on the editorial side is in contact with them.
Ad networks may set cookies or use similar technology. What that means for your data is covered in the privacy policy.
Affiliate links
An affiliate link earns this site a commission if you buy something after clicking it. The price you pay is the same either way. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your wallet.
A commission is a material connection between this site and a seller. Under the FTC’s Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), a connection like that has to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation itself.
Where the disclosure actually appears
Not only here. Burying it on a page nobody opens would defeat the point.
- Every post that contains affiliate links carries its own disclosure above the first such link, where you’ll read it before you click.
- The disclosure is plain text in the body of the post, not a symbol, not a footnote, not hidden behind a “read more” toggle.
- Monetized links carry
rel="sponsored nofollow", which discloses the connection to search engines as well as to you.
What this site will not do
- Recommend a product on the strength of testing that didn’t happen.
- Claim hands-on testing. Product mentions here are based on published specifications, manufacturer instructions, and Cooperative Extension guidance about what a given tool or material is for. That’s a different thing from a bench test, and it gets described as what it is.
- Let an advertiser or an affiliate program decide a topic, a ranking, or the order of a list.
- Dress an ad up as editorial content, or editorial content up as an ad.
- Take payment to soften or delete a warning, a caveat, or a “this probably won’t work in your zone.”
- Attach affiliate links to safety content. Pesticide and herbicide products, plant toxicity, and home food preservation are covered by pointing you to the label, the EPA, ASPCA Animal Poison Control (888-426-4435, a consultation fee may apply), Poison Control (1-800-222-1222), or the National Center for Home Food Preservation. Those pages don’t earn a commission, and they’re not going to.

Any program added later gets listed in this block, and this page is updated before the first link goes live.
If you see a product mentioned with no disclosure
Assume it isn’t monetized. A tool, a seed brand, or a bag of amendment named in a post with no disclosure nearby earns this site nothing. It’s named because naming it is more useful to you than writing “a suitable pruner” and leaving you to guess.
The reverse holds too. If you spot a link that looks monetized and carries no disclosure, that’s a mistake rather than a policy, and it gets fixed. Send it to hello@avagardentips.com and it’ll be corrected.
